“… gardens are not made By singing:—‘Oh, how beautiful!’ and sitting in the shade.” — Rudyard Kipling, “The Glory of the Garden”
This past weekend I finally got my monster of a Monstera plant repotted. It’s an exuberantly happy plant, having grown twice as large–it’s now taller than me–as when I brought it home. Like all living things it eventually outgrew its pot. Root bound and top heavy, it was time to expand the pot and refresh the soil to support new growth.
Just like the Monstera plant, we can become stagnant and root bound, content in some ways for things to never change. But, spring reminds us that in order for new growth to happen, the soil needs to be replenished, old roots need to be cut, and new seeds planted (or in the case of my Monstera, a new larger pot).
What new opportunities for growth are you planting this spring? Till the soil, release the old and stagnant, and fertilize with intention!
